INTRODUCTION:
Knowledge is power. The more we know makes us more powerful than the one who knows less than us. Little wonder why the devil, who knows a lot about God, man and Scripture, is able to exercise power in the life of men. We too as God’s children can become more powerful when we know more from Scripture.
We learn from Scripture the vastness of God’s knowledge. We see His omniscience in His ability to create from nothing, His miraculous deeds, and His position as the Judge of all the earth. As the creator and sustainer of all things, all knowledge finds its source in Him.
GOD’S KNOWLEDGE GOES BEYOND BOUNDARIES
– PSALM 139:1-2, 1 KINGS 14:1-6
In this passage we see that God has exhaustive knowledge of human beings. We know our friends and family very well and can predict their actions from time to time. But we cannot know what lies deep in their hearts down to their innermost intentions. Only God can search the heart and reveal all secrets.
Nothing escapes the eye of God. We have limited knowledge, we can see things from the outside. God sees the whole of everything at the same time, near or far, micro or macro, dead or alive, physical or spiritual, past or future. God’s knowledge is exhaustive and comprehensive.
GOD’S KNOWS ALL HUMAN ACTIONS
– PSALM 139:3
God understands perfectly the activities of humans. From our going out in the morning to lying down at night, He knows it all exhaustively. He can discern between our actions and knows when and why we do the things we do. He even knows the outcomes of our actions into the future and how one leads to the other.
God knows our secret plans and can make them known to others. He can direct our ways anyhow He pleases for His own glory. In the life of Joseph, we see God’s knowledge in directing the actions of all the men involved for Joseph to be sold as a slave in Egypt to save many lives.
GOD KNOWS BEHIND, BEFORE AND FROM ABOVE
– PSALM 139:4-5, JEREMIAH 1:5, MATTHEW 10:29-31
Our knowledge of the past as humans is limited to knowing the facts of what happened. We do not know why they happened the way they happened or all the future results of what happened. Our knowledge of the future is also limited to mere predictions of what might happen.
In contrast, God’s knowledge transcends time. He knows the past, present and future exhaustively and perfectly. The Psalms say God knows “behind” and “before” to demonstrate that nothing happens in time outside of God’s knowledge.
GOD’S KNOWLEDGE IS BEYOND OUR KNOWLEDGE
– PSALM 139:6
The nature of God’s knowledge stands unique from human knowledge. The Psalmist admits, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.” We as humans, even with years of scientific study and discovery, have only scratched the surface of all that can be known.
It is foolish to think we know more than God in how our lives should go and how things should happen. The only right response in view of God’s knowledge is to humble ourselves in worship and praise.
CONCLUSION:
God’s knowledge is limitless and infinitely beyond human knowledge, He knows all human actions and plans, He knows the past, present and future comprehensively. God’s knowledge transcends all time and human limitations.
Since God is all-knowing, we should trust Him to direct our lives and believe He will judge everything righteously at the appointed time.
