INTRODUCTION:

God does not start what He cannot finish. His plan of salvation is a complete package, the deliverance of our souls and bodies from sin and its effects. He has begun this work in our lives and will complete it at the coming of our Lord.

This hope is shared among all who believe in Jesus. The confidence we have in the validity and certainty of our salvation is not a blind or baseless hope but rooted in the person of Jesus and His Word.

VALIDATED BY JESUS’ PERSON

– JOHN 14:1, HEBREWS 6:16-18, HEBREWS 10:23

When the time for Jesus to leave His disciples came, they were greatly disturbed. Their future seemed uncertain – what will become of them? If their Messiah is to be handed over to be killed by the same people they were expecting to be delivered from, what hope do they have left?

Jesus drew their attention back to who God is. If they believe in God whom they have not seen, they should also believe in the one He sent to bring them salvation. Our belief in the nature and personality of God should inform and confirm our hope in Christ and the certainty of the salvation He provides.

GUARANTEED BY JESUS’ WORD

– JOHN 14:2, MATTHEW 25:34, 1 JOHN 3:2-3

The Lord spoke many times about the final consummation of God’s salvation plan. While the disciples were concerned with immediate deliverance from the powers of evil forces, the Lord spoke about ultimate deliverance from the power of evil.

By keeping in mind our heavenly home, we are assured in the words of Jesus that we won’t pass away with this world, nor will He leave us alone.

CERTIFIED BY JESUS’ PROMISED RETURN

– JOHN 14:3, LUKE 12:32, HEBREWS 2:10, HEBREWS 12:2, 1 THESSALONIANS 4:16

One aspect of our salvation that should give us much hope is our glorification. The hope of being where Christ is, being like Him when we see Him. This is the ultimate goal of salvation, being perfectly conformed to the image of Christ. Although we suffer now just as He suffered, if He is glorified, we too will be glorified.

He has prepared a place for us and has given us His Spirit to prepare us for it. At His appearing, there will no longer be any separation between us and Him.

CONFIRMED BY OUR KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS

– JOHN 14:4, 1 JOHN 2:13, 1 JOHN 5:11-13, 18-20

We have access to the Father because we know Him who is the way to the Father. He perfectly reveals the Father to us. This is the very essence of eternal life, knowing God the Father and the one He sent (John 17:3). This knowledge confirms to us that we are saved and already possess eternal life now.

Knowledge of the Way confirms the reality of the place. Knowledge of the Savior confirms the truth of salvation. Knowledge of the King confirms the veracity of the kingdom.

CONCLUSION:

We are saved by faith but this faith is not a mirage. It is validated by God’s own personality and guaranteed by His unchanging word. We are made certain by the promise of His return and the present knowledge we have of Him.

If He saves us now, He will save us from the wrath to come.
