INTRODUCTION:
No book has encountered more opposition, criticism, rejection, and extermination attempts as the Bible, yet has at the same time attracted more attention and is more honored than every other book. No book has been sold more, read more, translated into more languages, and has had more impact on the lives of people than the Bible.
No book can go through half of what the Bible has gone through and still stand alive and active in the world over its enemies.
THE ROCK THAT CANNOT BE CRUSHED
– JEREMIAH 36:27-28, EXODUS 34:1
Many hands throughout history have tried to squeeze life out of the Bible and many legs have tried to smash and crush it yet it has remained stronger and livelier.
This is in no way a new thing. Even from the times of the Old Testament, opposers of God’s word succeeded in burning many bibles but failed woefully in abolishing God’s word or defeating its purpose for which it was sent. Every attempt to abolish Scripture renews it instead.
THE TRUTH THAT CANNOT BE ALTERED
– REVELATION 22:18-19, 1 CORINTHIANS 4:6
Just as water is purest when it is taken as water with nothing added or subtracted, even more so we receive the Bible as pure with no need to add to it or subtract anything from it.
Truth is unchanging, once truth is altered it is no longer truth. The Bible is the ultimate truth that cannot be altered. Jesus testified to the finality and authority of Scripture and warned against adding to it or removing from it.
The Bible is to be believed whole and practiced in totality. No part of it is to be regarded as not important or less important. It should not be altered or misinterpreted but believed wholeheartedly.
THE TASTE THAT CANNOT BE ADULTERATED
– PSALM 119:103, JEREMIAH 15:16
The quality of food is known by its taste. We also try to describe the taste of an uncommon food with the taste of a food we know well that is similar in taste. The Psalmist in his ode to God’s Law compares the taste of God’s word to the sweetness of honey to the mouth.
God’s word is a taste mixed in heaven. Just as adulteration changes the original taste of a substance, when we try to mix into God’s word earthly ingredients, we end up with a diluted mess, devoid of its original taste, power and effectiveness.
THE LIGHT THAT CANNOT BE QUENCHED
– PSALM 119:105, EXODUS 13:21-22, PSALM 36:9
Darkness is only loved by people who do evil but light is a blessing to those who receive it. The word of God is a lamp that reveals to us who God is and who we are. It is a light that illuminates our path so that we can walk without stumbling.
When we try to walk without this light, we find ourselves in a world of pain and sorrow because it is in His light we see light. The greatness of this light lies in the fact that it does not go out. Day or night, raining or sunshine it shines unquenchably.
CONCLUSION:
The greatness of the Bible is seen in its ability to overcome every attempt to exterminate it. Even after thousands of years, thousands of translations in thousands of languages, it has retained its original truth.
It has stood the test of time, overpowering every opposition to its veracity. It is an anvil that has worn out many a hammer. It continues to wage war against the kingdom of darkness by changing hearts and transforming lives. Oh what a Great Book!
